Amaru Quispe Moon (they/them) is a non-binary indigenous artist living in Portland, Oregon. They specialize in cross stitch, pulled thread lace, and Andean backstrap weaving. If it involves threads, a grid system, and some kind of woven formation, they have probably tried it. From a young age their restless hands found an outlet in crafts, both as an expressive art form, and meditative practice. Evenings and weekends were often devoted to long, tedious projects made up of the tiniest stitches or the smallest beads.

Inspired by studying oil painting in high school and college, they began creating hyper realistic cross stitch portraits in 2017 which sparked their journey as a professional fiber artist. Since then their work has been featured in online publications, gallery exhibits, and local markets. They are now focused on rendering digitally designed images using a traditional backstrap loom. They enjoy exploring how nonlinear time flattens the ancient and the modern and blurs our understanding of progress.

In their free time, Amaru enjoys napping, hanging out with their dog Rika, and spending way too much time at the thrift store.
